Former Ipswich Town loanee Josh Harrop has a new club.

The 26-year-old has joined League Two side Northampton Town as a free agent, having been released by Preston North End earlier this season.

The midfielder has barely played since leaving Portman Road at the end of the 2020/21 season, when he made 15 appearances for the Blues under Paul Lambert and then Paul Cook.

He was left out of Preston’s Championship squad after returning to his parent club for 2021/22, meaning he couldn’t play in competitive games, before he was loaned to Fleetwood in January.

Harrop didn’t make an impact there, making only three starts before returning to Preston again in the summer, before having his contract terminated on deadline day.

He’s now joined Northampton as a free agent and is hoping to make the most of his fresh start, having signed a short-term deal with the Cobblers.

Harrop came through the academy at Manchester United, scoring on his debut in May 2017 against Crystal Palace.

That proved to be his only competitive appearance for the Red Devils, though, and he joined Preston just a few weeks later.
