Ipswich Town beat Peterborough United 2-1 at Portman Road this afternoon. Andy Warren hands out his player ratings.

Christian Walton

A bit of a different test for the Town goalkeeper today, who needed his punching gloves to clear Peterborough crosses under pressure on a number of occasions and used them to good effect. Might think he could have done more to deal with the cross which led to the Posh equaliser, though the sun may have been a factor, but made a couple of saves to keep Jonson Clarke-Harris out, while also seeing the striker’s free-kick bounce clear off his bar.

Janoi Donacien

The defender’s afternoon ended after a difficult opening 15 minutes in which he looked to be struggling with injury on two separate occasions, but was able to carry on. That was, until he wasn’t, as he limped off after slumping to the turf for a third time with an ankle problem. Town are hopeful he won’t be sidelined for too long. n/a

Luke Woolfenden

Woolfenden is finding his groove right now, with another very solid performance here. Did everything he needed to do to keep the league’s top scorer, Clarke-Harris, very quiet in open play. Another good afternoon for a player who, this time last year, was close to leaving Ipswich Town.

Cameron Burgess

The partnership of Burgess and Woolfenden has surely locked itself in at the heart of the Town defence, with the former Accrington man solid throughout again today. His best contribution on this occasion was an excellent near-post block on Kelland Watts in the first-half. He’s made huge strides under Kieran McKenna.

Leif Davis

A quiet attacking game by the high standards Davis has set himself, but he did his best to get up and down. He had a tough time from set-pieces, as he was given the assignment of dealing with Clarke-Harris and found balls put on top of him at the back post.

Sam Morsy

The skipper did his best to get on the ball in the first-half and work Ipswich from side to side, stretching Peterborough, before delivering the cross from which Conor Chaplin opened the scoring. Stung the palms of Lucas Bergstrom with a shot of his own and kept on going throughout, while also picking up another booking.

Cameron Humphreys

Town weren’t able to get their teenage midfielder on the ball enough in the first half but he kept going throughout, working hard, driving when he could and looking to pick out passes. Had a shot deflected wide and his manager was rightfully pleased with him at the end of the game.

Wes Burns

One of many Ipswich players who had a quiet first-half but came alive during an important part of the second, beating his man on a handful of occasions and lifting the crowd before the Blues ultimately found an equaliser a few minutes later. Helped Kane Vincent-Young out in defence, too, but lost Frankie Kent for the Peterborough equaliser.

Conor Chaplin

Town’s match-winner this afternoon started from the left side of the team in a move Kieran McKenna believes gave him ‘some different angles to attack’. His headed goal was excellent as he guided the ball into the far corner and his second, the winner, was superbly struck as he thumped through traffic and into the back of the net. A very good display.

East Anglian Daily Times: Sone Aluko made his return against PeterboroughSone Aluko made his return against Peterborough (Image: Steve Waller)

Sone Aluko

Straight into the starting XI after three months out with a knee injury and showed little rust, looking solid on the ball and willing to create. He tried through-balls when he could and had some good moments as he wriggled to the byline to cross, before leaving to a standing ovation as fans shouted his name in recognition of a very solid return to action. Ipswich planned on giving him the first 45 minutes here but he ended up giving his team nearly 80.

Kayden Jackson

Worked hard for little return in the first half as Ipswich struggled to get the striker into the game, but he came alive after the break and began to roll down the sides of the Peterborough defence, stretching the game and making opportunities for others by forcing mistakes. His manager will be pleased with this display.

Kane Vincent-Young (for Donacien, 16)

Into this game earlier than he would have expected to be involved and got up to speed quickly, on an afternoon where Ipswich’s full-backs weren’t able to impact the action as much as they have done. Had a tough time with Ephron Mason-Clark once the attacker came on, having earned himself a booking in the second period.

Kyle Edwards (for Aluko, 77)

Dropped out of the starting XI but had some decent moments after coming on, cutting on to take the shot which Bergstrom spilled before Ladapo tapped home from an offside position.

Freddie Ladapo (for Jackson, 77)

On for the closing stages and had the ball in the net, only to see the offside flag go up. Worked the channels well at times and will want a start at Wycombe.

Greg Leigh (for Davis, 90+3)

Richard Keogh (for Burns, 90+3)
