Ipswich Town are through to the third round of the FA Cup after a 4-0 victory over Buxton. Andy Warren hands out his player ratings.

Christian Walton

Holding one early shot proved to be the total of the Town No.1’s first half before a quiet second saw Ipswich leave this game with a clean sheet.

Kane Vincent-Young

Starting again, having done so in midweek, the full-back nominally started on the right of a four but spent the majority of his time in attack, looking to link with Wes Burns and at times tucking into a narrow attacking role in a bid to increase Town numbers up top. Contributed well.

Richard Keogh

While having a few defensive issues to deal with the veteran’s job was largely to get on the ball and eat up space before moving the ball into midfield. Had one shot blocked during a comfortable evening, though he was beaten all ends up by a Max Conway run which then needed substitute Albie Armin to clear off the line.

Cameron Burgess

Back in the starting line-up and solid throughout, dealing with the Buxton aerial threat with ease and moving the ball on the floor well. A solid display again from the masked man.

Leif Davis

Much of the Town play came down the right in the early stages but Davis, like Vincent-Young, focused on attacking while dealing with Buxton breaks. Picked up a yellow card while thwarting one, before coming off as planned at half-time. 6   East Anglian Daily Times: Sam Morsy and Gassan Ahadme celebrate the striker's goal against BuxtonSam Morsy and Gassan Ahadme celebrate the striker's goal against Buxton (Image: Steve Waller)

Sam Morsy

Starting his second cup game in a few days, the Town skipper was fully in control of what he and his side were doing, looking to break the lines and move Ipswich forward. Played some clever angled balls into danger and kept moving his side forward before being replaced just after the hour mark.

Cameron Humphreys

Starting alongside Morsy again, the teenager had some good time on the ball and looked to work with it, while also having a shot bounce off the top of the bar in the first half before being replaced at the break.

Wes Burns

The Welshman started this game and, for spells of it, was the focus of the Ipswich attack and had plenty of opportunities to cross. Some caused danger, others didn’t but the low one which picked out Conor Chaplin for Ipswich’s opener was excellent. Saw a few balls go loose but maintained a threat throughout his hour on the field. Came off after receiving some treatment but manager Kieran McKenna revealed the winger is fine.

Conor Chaplin

Looked the most likely man to make something happen for Town and ultimately did, with four or five efforts on goal (of varying quality and difficulty) followed by an excellent finish from Burns’ low cross. It was a proper ‘Chaplin’ goal as he shifted the ball out of his feet with one good touch and lashed home with a second. His second goal of the night was a beauty as he again followed a clever touch with a rocket of a shot as he beat Richardson from outside the area. Had a late header saved which would have given him his hat-trick.

Kyle Edwards

A quiet start to this game for the attacker, as Town focused on their right flank, but he worked his way into it and made the second with a jinking run and ball into danger which Gassan Ahadme turned home. Came on strong in this game as the visitors tired.

Gassan Ahadme

Making his first Ipswich start, at long last, the striker looked to get on the end of some floated balls into the area, heading wide and seeing another blocked before a good run saw him connect with Edwards’ cross and turn home. It was a great moment for the striker who worked hard throughout without seeing too much of the ball in threatening areas.

Albie Armin

On for Davis at the break and, after playing in midfield on Tuesday, operated at left-back here. Made one good clearance off the line and was neat and tidy throughout his time on the field.

The youngster replaced Humphreys at the interval and was quickly involved, firing off a shot which Richardson saved well. Had some good touches during his 45 minutes on the pitch.

Kayden Jackson (for Burns, 59)

Came on on the right flank before switching to the middle once Ahadme went off, scoring his side’s fourth goal of the night with a good finish after winning the ball back himself.

Luke Woolfenden (for Morsy, 59)

On for Morsy in the unfamiliar position of central midfield and, sitting deep, had some good moments on the ball and kept it nicely. Could he be used there in an emergency?

Matt Ward (for Ahadme, 82)

The youngster came on for his Ipswich debut here and had some good moments on the ball. n/a
