Christian Walton

Had almost nothing to do before allowing Ryan Broom’s equaliser to squirm under his body, for a goal he won’t want to see again. From there, he settled into a spectating role as Ipswich dominated the ball, but it’s hard to overlook the one Cheltenham shot on target ended up in the net.

Janoi Donacien

A solid start to the game burst into life with a marauding forward run to the edge of the box which ended with Marcus Harness thumping his shot against the underside of the bar. Sadly, that’s where Donacien’s afternoon ended as he limped off and was replaced by Kane Vincent-Young.

Luke Woolfenden

Playing for the first time since becoming a father, the defender was on the scoresheet within eight minutes as he turned home a corner from close range. Defended well on the limited occasions he needed to and should possibly have had a second goal after the break but headed over the top.

George Edmundson

Like Woolfenden, there were limited moments where Edmundson was required to defend his goal but dealt with those well enough, though he was one of the players pulled over to the Town right for the goal which ultimately came down their left. The defender also had a header well-saved in the first half.

Leif Davis

The left-back delivered the corner which led to the Ipswich goal and also headed over in a first half which also saw him caught far, far too tight in the build-up to Cheltenham’s equaliser. Beyond that he was always available in the final third and delivered cross after cross in search of an Ipswich equaliser.

Sam Morsy

The Town skipper was almost immaculate during the opening 30 minutes of this game, working the ball around the field expertly and helping Town use their high starting platform to attack. Continued to play well, having shots blocked on the edge of the box and adapting to the task of playing alongside Humphreys, rather than regular partners Lee Evans and Dom Ball. 8

East Anglian Daily Times:

Cameron Humphreys

A big afternoon for the teenager, who started an important game in front of a sizeable Portman Road crowd. Wasn’t overawed, as he has never been, and looked inventive throughout the contest, looking to play through-balls for team-mates whenever possible. He takes risks, which is great to see from search a young player. He should have had a goal, as he arrived late in the box and fired straight at a sprawling goalkeeper in the first half.

Wes Burns

In what will have been a week filled with emotion for the winger, who missed out on a place in the Wales squad for the World Cup, Town’s No.7 worked hard on the right, having some good attacking moments and flicking on the corner from which Woolfenden opened the scoring. Kept working before being replaced for the final 15 minutes.

Conor Chaplin

The attacker saw plenty of the ball in this game and, as it went on, he started to do more and more with it. He had shots blocked, penalty appeals waved away and balls into danger which couldn’t be converted by team-mates.

Marcus Harness

The attacker kept the ball better than he has done in recent weeks and helped his team, while also having chances which would have won the game had he been able to take them. Thundered off the underside of the bar in the first-half and then, after the break, headed wide when presented with a good cross from Chaplin. He should have scored that one. Could perhaps have done more to get back into the picture and try to prevent the visitors’ leveller.

Freddie Ladapo

During the first half the striker showed some really nice touches to bring team-mates into play but, in the second, had others where he didn’t attack the ball as well as he was needed to. Had one header brilliantly saved by visiting goalkeeper Luke Southwood.

Kane Vincent-Young (for Donacien, 16)

Into this game early and quickly fired off a shot, saved by Southwood at his near post, before working up and down the right flank well this afternoon. It’s been a good week for the right-back, who has had little time on the field this season.

Kayden Jackson (for Burns, 74)

On for Burns on the right flank and worked hard to get into some decent crossing positions, but neither he or the intended targets could fully take advantage.

Kyle Edwards (for Harness, 74)

Sent on try and unlock the door for Ipswich and looked as though he could do it, with some tricky moments as he threatened the Cheltenham box. Put in one really special ball which Panutche Camara couldn’t quite stretch to reach.

Cameron Burgess (for Chaplin, 90)

On in stoppage time and sent straight up front, but he wasn’t able to use his power to find a way to goal. n/a

Panutche Camara (for Humphreys, 90)

On for the final few minutes and found time to fire a shot off the post and stretch but just fail to reach an exception ball in from Edwards. n/a
