Ipswich Town drew 4-4 with Charlton Athletic in a dramatic game at The Valley this afternoon. Andy Warren hands out his player ratings.

Christian Walton

A tough afternoon in the end of the Ipswich goalkeeper, who had an early scare with a loose ball from feet early on. Stopped shots in the lead-up to Charlton goals one and two but pushed both into traffic – he'll feel he should have done better for the second. Saw George Dobson’s effort loop over his head in added time as the fourth goal hit the back of his net. The keeper has been exceptional for Ipswich since signing last summer, setting incredibly high standards, but will be frustrated not to have reached them here. 5

Janoi Donacien

Part of a defence which will certainly be frustrated to leave this game having conceded four goals, including two in added time. Town’s right side wasn’t at its attacking best in this one, with Donacien sitting deep for much of the game and struggling to get forward to support Burns on too many occasions.

Luke Woolfenden

Charlton’s four goals in this game from a combined total of around 15 yards, which will be frustrating for the Ipswich defence. The third felt particularly sloppy, with runners lost before it was turned into the net.

George Edmundson

Took the brunt of Jayden Stockley’s early fire in this game, engaging in the physical battle and doing a solid job before sending home a towering header to open the scoring just before half-time. But, like so many of his team-mates, will be hugely frustrated by the way this game finished.

Leif Davis

An up and down afternoon for the in-form left-back, who had some excellent moments but some poor ones as well. Got caught offside on the last shoulder at important times and also played some sloppy balls in the final third. Got into the box on a couple of occasions. Was beaten at the back post for Dobson’s equaliser.

Dominic Ball

Partnering Sam Morsy due to Lee Evans’ absence, the former QPR man was solid in this game, screening the back four for much of the contest and breaking up play when needed. Had a few nice, forward, passes while also winning the free-kick which ultimately led to Ipswich’s second.

Sam Morsy

The skipper was up for this game as he returned from a ban and was in the thick of the action throughout, battling away, looking to get on the ball and drive and hearing the referee’s whistle ringing in his ears at times too. It looked like he had put the gloss on what was surely a brilliant win, as he slammed home Town’s fourth, only for the unthinkable to happen.

Wes Burns

A quiet afternoon in many respects for the Welshman, who did have some bright moments and showed flashes of good footwork without being able to threaten the Charlton box enough. His best moment saw him put in a good cross which Tyreece John-Jules was able to nod home.

Conor Chaplin

The No.10 worked hard, has some neat touches and a string of shots blocked as he looked to work openings for him and his team in dangerous, but crowded, areas of the field. His blocked free-kick led to Town’s second goal as he recovered the rebound and lad the ball back for Burns to cross for John-Jules. Was off the field before the late drama.

Kayden Jackson

Jackson’s pace looked like it could cause problems for the Addicks this afternoon as he worked his way up and down the left flank, without having too many opportunities to wriggle free in the first half. Had a few more in the second before being replaced.

Tyreece John-Jules

Another chance to lead the line for the Arsenal loanee, who scored one and had further chances, while providing a good focal point for his side. His goal was a good one, as he showed good movement in the box to nod home Wes Burns’ cross, before having another saved soon after when he should have scored. Was clearly put off by a whistle from the crowd in the first-half, when through on goal. His work with his back to goal was important for his side.

Freddie Ladapo (for John-Jules, 71)

Will have been frustrated to drop to the bench, following his Port Vale brace, but will surely have thought he was the Ipswich match-winner after scoring from outside the box during his 20 minutes on the field here.

Marcus Harness (for Chaplin, 71)

One of three players introduced for the final 20 minutes, with the attacker working in tight areas on the edge of the box, influencing the game well at times but losing the ball on others.

Kyle Edwards (for Jackson, 71)

On for the final 20 minutes and had some threatening moments before spurning a golden chance to make it 3-2, fluffing his lines inside the box. 5

Richard Keogh (for Burns, 90+)

On deep into stoppage time, prior to the Charlton equaliser. n/a
