Day had previously won bronze in 2016 but went one better this time, missing out on a gold medal by just half a second, about one metre at the end of a 1,000 metre race.
He was fortunate to have raced on the Saturday of the two-day event, held at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham. Races on the Sunday were cancelled due to strong winds and high waves.
His second place followed a similar result the previous weekend at Peterborough regatta where Day again came second in a warm up event prior to the main championships.
Ipswich RC has only recently begun to send members to national races, this being only the third year of the new club’s history.
