Mustapha Carayol and Stephen Gleeson are free to find new clubs after they were not offered fresh terms by Ipswich Town.

The duo both arrived at Portman Road during the January transfer window on deals until the end of the season, but have not been offered new contracts as the Blues continue their search for a new manager.

With Ipswich not in a position to offer deals while that search is ongoing, both have been told they are free to find new clubs this summer with their current deals now in their final weeks.

Carayol impressed during many of his eight Ipswich appearances, most notably during a scintillating 45-minute display at Preston in which he scored the winner before being withdrawn at half-time due to illness. But injuries hampered him during his time at Portman Road, restricting him to just 317 minutes in an Ipswich shirt.

After a bright debut at Bolton, in which he moved the ball well and inspired the Blues as they came from behind to claim a point, Gleeson found gametime hard to come by, slipping down the midfield pecking order.

In total he made 10 appearances, of which only five were starts. The Blues are well stocked in central midfield, with Emyr Huws, Andre Dozzell and Teddy Bishop all set to return from injury next season and Flynn Downes coming back into the squad having spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Luton.

Ipswich have already declined to take the option on Luke Hyam this summer, with the young midfielder’s 15-year association with the Blues coming to an end, while David McGoldrick is also out of contract in the coming weeks.

Like Carayol and Gleeson, McGoldrick is free to find a new club after the striker was not offered new terms, although negotiations are believed to have taken place.

It is understood the Blues are in negotiations with young goalkeepers Michael Crowe, recently called up by Wales, and Nick Hayes regarding new contracts.

The option to extend goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski’s contract, which was due to expire this summer, by a further year has been taken, with negotiations continuing regarding a multi-year deal.

Former manager Mick McCarthy announced terms had been agreed in January, with Bialkowski subsequently admitting there were a number of small details needing to be ironed out before it is signed.
