Ipswich Town owner Marcus Evans has assured supporters that the fee received from Adam Webster’s sale to Bristol City – believed to be £3.5m – will be ‘reinvested into the playing squad’.
Webster becomes the seventh most lucrative sale in the club’s history, signing a four-year deal at Ashton Gate just two years after he joined Town from League Two side Portsmouth for £700k plus Matt Clarke.
“We didn’t want to lose Adam but it was very clear that the move appealed to him,” Evans told the club website.

“I thought long and hard before agreeing to the move and we haven’t let Adam go without receiving a significant fee and that will be reinvested into the playing squad.
FLASHBACK: ‘Cresswell money will be reinvested in the club’ – Milne (July 2014)
“Paul (Hurst) has already identified a number of targets in various positions as we look to strengthen the squad for the season ahead and the challenge is now on to secure those players.”
FLASHBACK: ‘Mings money will be reinvested’ – Milne (June 2015)
Town managing director Ian Milne said much the same following the big-money sales of Aaron Cresswell (£3.75m), Tyrone Mings (£8.1m) and Daryl Murphy (£3m) and, while that was true, the funds largely got swallowed up by an increased wage bill and loan fees rather than going back on transfer fees.
The likes of David McGoldrick, Luke Hyam, Stephen Gleeson, Mustapha Carayol and Kevin Bru have all been released this summer, while Cameron Carter-Vickers, Dominic Iorfa, Callum Connolly and Bersant Celina have seen their loans expire.
Hurst has made two additions so far, with England U19 defender/midfielder Trevoh Chalobah joining on a season-long from Chelsea and winger Jordan Roberts joining on a Bosman free transfer from League Two side Crawley Town.
