Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club head coach Jon Curry thinks his side will be a ‘force to be reckoned with’ in the coming campaign after signing four new players.
The National League Two South outfit are Suffolk’s highest-ranked rugby side, and play at a level which no other side from the county has ever reached.
Ambitious as ever, the Haberden side have added to their arsenal ahead of the new season, which starts in September.
The club have recruited:-
- Callum Torpley, a hooker who’s played previously for Galwegians and Connacht Eagles.
- Cameron Richie, a fly-half who lists Australia’s Western Province and the Natal Sharks in South Africa on his rugby resume.
- Connor Adams, a scrum half who played for England in both codes at under 16 level and went on to represent Scotland at under 20 level. He’s seen action at the Wigan Warriors and Worcester.
- Jordan Agerich, a hooker who has played for several sides in France including Stade Toulousain, Senor Santander and SC Rieumois.
The quartet join a trio of signings from earlier in the summer - Italian tight head prop Andrea Pozzi, Kiwi inside centre Nicholas Perez and Patrick Robinson, a prop/hooker who also hails from New Zealand.
Bury team stalwarts Sam Bixby, Chris Snelling and Chris Lord are among the returnees as the Wolfpack look to mount a serious promotion push.
Head coach Curry said: “The players have arrived and are making excellent progress in training to bond as a group. I am encouraged by early indications from players and quietly confident that the squad will be a force to be reckoned with in National 2 South this season.
“It is also a particular pleasure to welcome several local players who join us from other East Anglian clubs as they progress their rugby to the next level.”
Bury will play three home friendlies in the run-up to the new season, starting with Old Elthamians on August 11.
After that, Hertford visit on August 18 before Colchester cross the border on August 23.
Before all of that, at 4pm on August 4, supporters are being invited to watch training and then meet the squad at a barbecue at the Haberden.
