There are delays of 20 minutes on the A12 as both carriageways reopen following a police incident in north Essex.
The road was shut in both directions between Witham and Hatfield Peverel and reopened at 9.15pm.
In a tweet, Essex Travel News, which is run by Essex County Council, said: "The A12 northbound is closed between junction 19 (Boreham) and junction 21 (Witham) due to a police incident.
"London-bound is also closed between junction 22 (Witham) and junction 21 (Witham south)."
National Highways previously warned drivers of delays of around 75 minutes and five miles of congestion while police attend the incident.
There was also a diversion route put in place by Essex Police.
The AA Traffic Map shows there are still some delays in the area with congestion on the southbound carriageway.
