A village pub in east Suffolk is to re-open later this week after a month-long refurbishment.
Changes at the White Horse at Easton, near Framlingham, include the installation of a custom-made children’s play frame and a stone baked pizza oven, in prepration for a new family-friendly menu.
The kitchen team is being led by Liam Keeting, a former sous chef at The Pier at Harwich. He said: “The opportunity to head up the kitchen at The White Horse was very exciting.
“It has always played a central role in the local community and I am very much looking forward to developing an affordable, relaxed menu that both locals and tourists will appreciate.”
Allister Catchpole, who was head chef at the White Horse from 2010 to 2013, during which it was named Suffolk Dining Pub of the Year for 2011, is returning as the new landlord.
Philip Turner, founder of The Chestnut Group, which has run the White Horse since June last year, said: “We are delighted to have Ali and Liam on board in this exciting new chapter.
“We have listened to the feedback and relaxed our menu as well as installing a new children’s play area. Rural pubs will always play an important part in our expanding portfolio.
“Our latest venture, The Blackbirds Inn near Newmarket, has been well received by the local community, sending out a clear message that there is still a huge demand for relaxed, casual dining.”
The Chestnut Group, which was established in 2012, also includes the Packhorse Inn at Moulton, near Newmarket, the Rupert Brooke at Grantchester, near Cambridge, the Northgate in Bury St Edmunds and, its latest addition, the Blackbirds Inn at Woodditton, near Newmarket.
