Music fans are in for a bank holiday bonanza in one Suffolk town.
Woodbridge Art and Music Event (WAME) returns for a third year, occupying venues like Elmhurst Park, The Riverside, The Tea Hut and the Community Hall.
Meanwhile, the same weekend, Summer Fest follows on the heels of Spring Fest’s popular silent discos, DJ sets and live bands.
The line-up for WAME includes DJs Darren House, known as Diesel, who won an Ivor Novello award with X-Press 2, and Phil Mison, who has released solo work as Cantoma.
Indie rockers The Woodentops also line up with Faroe Islanders Orka, 1960s electronic band White Noise, and local acts including Deben Collective, Aatrwork, Peter Hepworth and jazz singer Kelly Pritchard with guitarist Kevin Walford.
Ben Osborne, founder of WAME organiser Noise of Art, who will also DJ at The Riverside, said: “Diesel and I will be doing an all night back-to-back session on Saturday night after the park closes. We’ve played DJ tag together many times over the years, but this will be the first time we’ve done this outside a London club. We’re also hoping for good weather so we can also literally be outside – at least for the start of the night.”
There will be a day of free music in the park on the Saturday, followed by events in different venues around the town in the evening.
This year’s event includes an ambient and electronic music strand, celebrating Woodbridge-born Brian Eno and co-curated by former Thompson Twins keyboardist Jan Pulsford, who will be broadcasting live – as will Ipswich Community Radio.
Summer Fest, organised by Woodbridge DJ Marco Spina, kicks off on the Friday evening at Honey+Harvey, with the first of three silent discos, before live acts FENRIR, Reno&Rome, The Last Gunfighter, Josh Mellor, James Morgan and Johnny Skeates appear on Saturday at The Angel, which hosts another silent disco that evening.
On Sunday, its the turn of James Nunn, Joshua Smith, Eat My Pop, Rory Martin King, Savi, Litter of Kings, Deadpool and Meg Hughes at The Table, followed by a closing party.
Mr Spina said: “Spring Fest was a huge success. We had great feedback from not only the festival attendees, but also the bands and DJs, and owners of the venues. Due to this feedback, I have decided to put on a similar event this August bank holiday.”
