No arrests have been made after armed police were called to the headquarters of Ipswich Borough Council following reports of a man making threats.
Five police cars were parked outside Grafton House while armed police stood at the doors and perimeter of the building.
A dog unit was also seen at the scene in Russell Road.
An officer at the scene was heard telling one member of staff the building was now 'on lockdown'.
A spokesman for Ipswich Borough Council confirmed there was an ongoing police incident and that staff were following instructions from officers.
A police spokesman said: 'Police were called to the Russell Road area of Ipswich at about 2.40pm this afternoon to reports of a male making threats.
'Officers swiftly attended the location in the interests of public safety and conducted a thorough search of the area but no threat or suspect was found. Officers have resumed routine duties and further enquiries will be conducted into the circumstances.'
No arrests were made.
