Woodbridge named as happiest place to live in the UK

Woodbridge, in east Suffolk, was ranked as the number one spot beating out previous winners Richmond upon Thames, which took home the title last year, and third place Hexham in Northumberland.

In last year's rankings, the town was number 17 in the list.

Mayor of Woodbridge, Councillor Robin Sanders, said: “The happy mood of residents is a reflection of the vibrant town centre.”

The survey was carried out by Righmove after polling 35,000 people across Britain. 

Participants were asked about the community spirit and friendliness of their areas, as well as access to essential services such as doctors or schools. 

Some of the top factors for places ranking highly included being near a rural location and feeling proud of the area they live in.

Jamie Curran, director at IP Properties in Woodbridge, said: “The amenities Woodbridge has to offer in my eyes are second to none; having boutiques, coffee shops, public houses and highly reviewed restaurants all within walking distance of each other is amazing.”

For the East of England, Woodbridge also ranked top followed by Leigh on Sea, Hitchin, St Albans and Clacton on Sea.

Woodbridge is no stranger to national recognition. It was recently named as one of the best places to live in the UK. 

The town is also becoming a hotspot for foodies with plenty of places to grab a bite to eat or drink. 

In October Sam Revell, head chef at JJ's in Woodbridge was shortlisted for a national award at the Staff Canteen Awards.

There is plenty of things to do in and around the market town, which is known for its outstanding beauty. 

Whether it be going for a stroll along the River Deben or taking in the history at Sutton Hoo, there really is something for everyone.
