A new food-to-go pod, which appears to be a Greggs, has been planned for land on a main road in Mildenhall - and could create up to 10 jobs if approved.

Plans by Motor Fuel Group for Field Road Service Station, next to the Field Road/College Heath mini roundabout to the north of the town, have been received by West Suffolk Council and include the provision of a food-to-go pod, three jet washes and car parking.

The parcel of land is described as "under utilised" and documents before the council state the proposal will "provide supporting infrastructure" to meet the needs of road users.

The site currently comprises of an operational 24-hour petrol station with four pumps, a canopy and a sales building.

In the proposals the food-to-go building will be located on the western extent of the site and drawings submitted to the council show it to be a Greggs unit.

The three enclosed jet washes are proposed for the south of the site and six parking pays for users of the site are also to be provided.

Access would remain as it is now with vehicles entering and exiting from Field Road.

A statement before the council reads: "The proposed food-to-go bakery pod is considered to offer a complementary service to the motorists already utilising the facilities of Field Road Service Station.

"It is envisaged that a food-to-go of this size will generate a net increase of ten jobs (approximately five full-time positions and five part-time opportunities)."

It states permission is sought for the food unit to operate for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in keeping with the petrol station itself.

"An hours of operation condition limiting the jet washes would be considered acceptable between 7am-10pm seven days a week," the statement reads.

Plans are with West Suffolk Council for consideration.
