An Ipswich businessman who came to the UK from Albania with no money at the age of 15 has won a prestigious business award.

Jetnor Brati, who owns a coffee shop Lucky's Coffee Shop and a Greek restaurant Lucky’s Souvlaki in St Matthew's Street, won the businessperson of the year gong at the Suffolk BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) Business Awards.

Mr Brati was presented with the award at the ceremony at the University of Suffolk on Tuesday night after beating off competition from four other nominees.

After moving to the UK from his native Albania as a teen, Mr Brati spent time living in Cambridge and Stowmarket before moving to Ipswich four years ago.

"It's been a very difficult journey for me. I'm very grateful, for here in this country you can find anything.

"If you're a hard worker you can achieve whatever you want to do. As long as you work hard.

"I'm very thankful for everything."

Mr Brati added that he was delighted that his business had been a multicultural hub for the local community.

He said: "I'm very happy and proud to serve the community and het all the communities from different backgrounds coming into Lucky's Coffee."

More than 100 entries were received for nine categories in what was the 6th edition of the awards celebrating BME businesses from across the county.

The awards were hosted by BSC Multicultural Service (BSCMS) and sponsored by Kerseys Solicitors, SAI Estates and Ipswich Bazaar.

Support was also received from the University of Suffolk, the Ipswich Star and the East Anglian Daily Times.
