A Felixstowe man was handed a driving ban and ordered to pay almost £1,000 after being caught driving at more than twice the legal alcohol limit.

Hayden Coote, of Capel Drive, was sentenced by Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Ipswich in September.

According to court documents, the 27-year-old had been driving his BMW along Dogs Head Street in Ipswich on August 10 this year. When he was stopped by police and breathalysed, it was found that he had 89 microgrammes of alcohol for 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes, meaning he was driving at more than double the allowed amount.

Coote was disqualified from driving for 40 months, and fined £600.

He was also ordered to pay a surcharge towards victims’ services of £240, and court cots of £85.

This brings the total amount Coote will have to pay to £925.
