A 27-year-old "violent coward" murdered his former partner while she was out with friends.
Logan Burnett, of All Saints Road, will be sentenced on February 17 for the murder of 26-year-old Courtney Mitchell.
The mum-of-three was stabbed by Burnett in Burrell Road at around 7.10pm on Tuesday, August 6.
She died from stab wounds to the chest that evening.
He pleaded guilty at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday.
Speaking after the plea, Detective Superintendent Nicola Wallace, the Senior Investigating Officer, said: “This was a completely senseless loss of life which has devastated Courtney’s family.
“Logan Burnett is a violent coward who murdered a defenceless woman in front of her friends and members of the public in broad daylight.
“At least by admitting his guilt, Burnett has spared Courtney’s family the additional trauma of a trial, but the pain and anguish his actions that evening have caused will live with them for ever.”
Burnett fled the scene after the attack but was arrested the following morning and taken to Martlesham Police Station to be questioned before being charged with her murder.

"Her kindness had no limits, she was always there for everybody, family, friend, or stranger.
"She was helpful in every way possible; her empathy knew no bounds. She was fun, fierce and extremely loyal.
“She was a daughter, granddaughter, a mummy, a sister, niece, aunty, cousin and a best friend to all.
"She had time for everybody and would go above and beyond the scale to help others in need and always offered support in any way possible.
“Courtney was a great mum with two beautiful sons and one beautiful daughter who love her immeasurably.
"We miss you and you are forever in our hearts and as a family we are completely and utterly devastated and broken. A void will always be left and a place at the table will always be set for you.
"Courtney was very intelligent and could read any room, she was extremely funny and was the life and soul of any gathering.

“You are our pride and joy and our shining star.
"We are very grateful every day for the gift of being her parents, grandparents, sister, aunty, niece, cousin and more, but more importantly the gift she gave her children of being their mother.”
In August, a remembrance event was held for Courtney when lanterns were released on Felixstowe beach opposite Mannings Amusements to mark what would have been her 27th birthday.
