Free parking will be on offer in parts of Suffolk this festive season in some council-owned car parks. 

East Suffolk Council has said it will be offering free parking all day on the dates of Christmas lights switch-ons and other festive events. 

Councillor Tim Wilson, East Suffolk’s cabinet member for Economic Development and Transport said: “In agreement with the respective town councils across East Suffolk, we are pleased to be offering all day free parking at council-owned car parks on selected dates during the festive period.

"Signs will be in place within each car park advising visitors of the free parking offer.”

  • Aldeburgh - Saturday 23 November
  • Halesworth - Saturday 23 November
  • Bungay - Saturday 23 November
  • Framlingham - Saturday 23 November
  • Woodbridge – Thursday 28 November
  • Beccles – Friday 29 November
  • Southwold - Saturday 30 November
  • Wickham Market - Saturday 30 November
  • Lowestoft - Saturday 30 November
  • Felixstowe - Saturday 30 November
  • Saxmundham – Saturday 7 December
  • Leiston – Sunday 8 December
  • Oulton Broad – Sunday 8 December

On Thursday Aldeburgh Town Council announced they had cancelled their Christmas lights switch-on event due to predicted bad weather. 

The council said that due to the forecast strong winds the event has been cancelled for health and safety reasons. 

Framlingham Town Council has also warned that their switch-on event could also be cancelled over fears of bad weather over the weekend. 

A spokesman for the council said: "We will be monitoring the weather conditions and will provide an update on whether the event will go ahead or not as soon as we can."
