A Suffolk MP has visited a job centre to learn more about its work.

West Suffolk's Nick Timothy travelled to Newmarket Job Centre on Wellington Street to meet with staff and the East Anglia district manager for the Department of Work and Pensions, Julia Nix, to discuss boosting local employment opportunities.

The visit was in preparation for a pop-up event celebrating National Older Worker Week on Friday, November 29, at The Racing Centre.

Mr Timothy said: “I was glad to be able to meet and hear from the dedicated staff there.

"I also had a useful chat with Julia about how we can work together to boost local employment opportunities and welfare support for those who need it.

“It’s vital to match people’s skills up with the right employers so that both industry and the community can thrive and grow stronger together.

"I’m keen to do what I can to open up the channels of communication between businesses and job applicants so that employers can access the best talent for them, and so that recruits can secure exciting and rewarding jobs and careers.”
