A swimming pool in west Suffolk is set to close for a day next week for repairs.

The pool at Mildenhall Hub, in Sheldrick Way, will close on Tuesday to repair a split in the lining.

Two lanes of the main pool have been closed since Monday afternoon when the split was discovered.

Wrightfield Pools, which installed the pool at Mildenhall Hub, will be carrying out the repairs to the defected liner and welded joint.

It follows similar repairs in March when the pool had to shut for two weeks so that the entire pool could be emptied, checked, refilled and the water tested before reopening.

The repairs in March and next week are all covered under warranty as is the loss of income to Abbeycroft.

Tracey Loynds, operations director at Abbeycroft, which runs the leisure centre at Mildenhall Hub, said: “We will be contacting customers directly with information about their swimming lessons or bookings, however, we are hoping to move most of the bookings into our learner pool for the day so that disruption is minimal.”

The pool installers have advised that the latest repairs can be carried out in a day with the main pool scheduled to shut for Tuesday only.

The learner pool will remain open along with all other facilities in the leisure centre.

Ian Shipp, cabinet member for leisure at West Suffolk Council and ward councillor for Mildenhall Kingsway and Market, said: “Wrightfield have told us that the pool will only need to be shut for a day.

"We appreciate this latest repair and the closure of two lanes from earlier this week is frustrating for pool users as it is for us and Abbeycroft as well.

"The work is being carried out under warranty and will have no impact on taxpayers.

"It is our and Abbeycroft’s expectation that the work by Wrightfield this time around will resolve the issue preventing the need for any further closures in the near future.”
