A town councillor has said a crash in a seaside town in which a woman in her 70s died after being hit by a sports car was "very sad" but an "isolated incident".
Felixstowe town councillor Nick Barber, who represents East ward, said he could not think of a similar scenario happening in the town for 10 years or more after the pedestrian died after being struck by a Nissan GTR in Church Road at 2.30pm on Tuesday.
Church Road is in Mr Barber's ward.
He said: "As a councillor of Felixstowe for 15 years now and a resident of Felixstowe all my life, I can count on one hand the number of incidents like this."
Felixstowe mayor David Rowe said: "The first thing we would say would be to pass on our condolences to her family and friends."
The woman appears to have been walking along the pavement in the direction of High Road East to deliver three letters when she was struck from behind by the GTR which then crashed through a picket fence and into the front garden of a property.

As well as destroying the fence, the vehicle uprooted trees and left tyre marks visible on the front lawn.
The woman was taken to Ipswich Hospital by land ambulance for treatment, but later died.
Suffolk police, the East of England Ambulance Service, the East Anglian Air Ambulance and a paramedic from Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) also attended.
The road was closed for a number of hours while emergency services attended and an investigation took place.
The 18-year-old driver of the GTR was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, aggravated vehicle taking, driving without insurance and failing to stop after a collision.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision and are asking any motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle to review the footage.
Mr Barber added: "I feel very sad for the family involved and it is an isolated incident.
"These things just don't seem to happen in Felixstowe and unfortunately it has happened now and I hope that it will be the only one that I will remember in my lifetime."
