Good Food Guide inspectors have described it as "a roadside pub where superlative cooking, sharp serving and stylish plates of food meet a dose of easy irreverence".

The Sunday roast options included 40-day aged beef, roast pork loin with crackling or 50-day aged rib of Hereford beef.

Both pubs just missed out on being named the best in the country which was awarded to The Abbey Inn in Yorkshire.
