A Suffolk GP said she feels "incredibly proud" to work in the industry as she retires after 30 years.

Dr Carrie Everitt has worked as a GP since 1994, and has spent the last 22 years at the Hadleigh Health Centre.

The surgery announced last week that she would be retiring on Thursday, December 5.

She said: "The time has come for me to retire from general practice.

"I have been working as a GP since 1994 and am very fortunate to have worked here amongst this lovely community in and around Hadleigh since 2002.

"I've seen a lot of changes and challenges in all the years I have been in practice. Throughout it all I have felt privileged in what you have shared with me as patients and all that I have learnt through you in this job."

Among the challenges which faced Dr Everitt during her 22 years at the Hadleigh practice was the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The pandemic was probably the most challenging time of my career," continued Dr Everitt.

"We learned at that time to be incredibly adaptable. I am incredibly proud of the team that I work with. People pull together."

She added: "I am so proud of the team we have here and the work that everyone contributes to provide high standards of care and know that I am leaving the practice in excellent hands. I am pleased to let you know that we are taking on another GP to share what is an ever-increasing workload.

"Many thanks to all of you who have been my patients."

Asked what she will do in her retirement, Dr Everitt said she was looking forward to doing some travelling and embracing new experiences.
