A fast-food chain has revealed it has "no current plans" to open in a Suffolk town - two years on from proposals which were given the go-ahead.

Mid Suffolk District Council gave the EG Group permission to build two drive-through units on land south of Gun Cotton Way and Thorney Way, Stowmarket, in November 2022.

Planning documents at the time said Starbucks and fast-food restaurant Leon would occupy the units.

While Starbucks opened its doors to the public in September, Leon has confirmed it currently does not plan to open in the town.

A spokesperson for the chain said on Friday: "I can confirm that LEON has no current plans to open in that location."

James Patchett, Mid Suffolk District Councillor for Stow Thorney, said: "It was always in the original plan, there is just hope that is something that people want."

An application submitted in September to alter planning conditions for the land showed two units are still earmarked for the site.

The Starbucks opened on Thursday, September 26, creating 15 jobs.
