As Christmas draws nearer, many like to head out to start their shopping and enjoy the festive lights put up to bring Suffolk into the holiday season.

Large crowds gathered to enjoy the range of events put on by organisers at Bury St Edmunds Christmas light switch-on on Thursday.

So where else is planning an event this year?

1.Kesgrave

When: Saturday, November 30 at 6.30pm

Where: Rupert Fison Square

 

The light switch-on will take place near the Tesco metro (Image: Archant) Kesgrave will switch the lights on at the end of November.

An ice rink for £2.50 will be running from 4pm until 8pm and Santa's Grotto will be open from 4pm until 7.30pm for £5.

The lights will switch on at 6.30pm.

2. Felixstowe

When: Saturday, November 30 at 12pm

Where: The Triangle

The Felixstowe light switch-on started in 1979 and since then, every year, the president picks a tree from Swans Nursery for the triangle.

New Christmas lights will be displayed with the help of funding from Felixstowe Town Council and BID.

Stalls, music and a BBQ will be at the event as well as a Santa's Grotto.

3. Ipswich

When: Sunday, November 17 at 4pm

Where: The Cornhill

The event begins at 4pm, with entertainment from Jack and the Beanstalk's pantomime cast, singers and Act First students as well as an interview from Ipswich Town FC player Leif Davis and chief executive Mark Ashton.

Entry is free but it will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mayor Elango Elavalakan, will be switching on the lights after the entertainment at 6.45pm.

4. Aldeburgh

When: Saturday, November 23 at 10am

Where: Jubilee Hall

Lending itself as a free event, the Aldeburgh light switch-on is a perfect way to get into the festive spirit.

A Christmas craft fair will be available for a browse from 2pm until 4pm.

In the late afternoon, a live harp performance and refreshments on the green will round off the day before the light switch-on by the Mayor of Aldeburgh.

5. Woodbridge

When: Thursday, November 28 at 4.30pm

Where: Market Hill and Thoroughfare

A show including a Christmas sing-along, Santa's sleigh, rides and music is sure to begin the festive fun.

Woodbridge lights switch-on weekend will also include late night shopping, food and drink stalls and a lantern parade.

This year’s lights are being switched on by Town Mayor Robin Sanders and Jenny Riddle Carpenter MP.

6. Clare

When: Friday, November 29 and Saturday, November 30

Where: Parish Church, the Town Hall and Market Hill

The Clare Christmas fair has only gotten bigger over the years and will include around 70 stalls for Christmas shopping this year.

To raise money for the church, mulled wine and mince pies will be available on both days.

Entertainment will fuel the excitement until the lights switch on at Market Hill at 6pm.

7. The Suffolk Tractor Light Parade

When: Sunday, December 15

Where: Campsea Ashe to Tunstall

More than 100 tractors will parade decorated in Christmas lights through Suffolk in December.

The route will begin at Campsea Ashe and head through Wickham Market, Melton, Woodbridge, Eyke, Rendlesham and Tunstall.

The decorated tractors will play Christmas music throughout their journey.
