A 28-year-old driver who plunged his car in to a water-filled ditch has been jailed.

Edgaras Jucikas from Beck Row near Mildenhall admitted drinking around four pints of beer before getting into his black Peugeot on June 14.

A member of the public called police after seeing the 28-year-old's car leave the road in Westmoor Dip in Littleport in Cambridgeshire and flip into a ditch.

Juckias was helped out of the car and was given blankets to keep warm.

When officers arrived they carried out a roadside breath test where he blew 75, just over twice the legal limit of 35 microgrammes per 100ml of breath.

At Norwich Magistrates' Court of Monday the 28-year-old was sentenced to three months in prison after pleading guilty to drink driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and failing to appear.

He was also disqualified from driving for four-and-a-half years.

PC Baillie Morgan- Heritage, who investigated, said: “Jucikas is extremely lucky to be here today. If it wasn’t for a member of the public seeing his vehicle leave the road, he could’ve gone into the ditch without anyone knowing or being able to seek help.

“Drinking affects your reaction times, your vision and your ability to concentrate. As Jucikas demonstrated, drink drivers put their lives at risk by getting behind the wheel, not to mention the lives of other road users.”
