A plan to build two homes in the back yard of a pub on a key route into Sudbury have been met with concern and criticism from residents.
Applicant Theodore Bird is seeking planning permission from Babergh District Council for the demolition of an disused outbuilding behind the former Cyclist Café at 53 Ballingdon Street and subsequent erection of two homes.
In proposals the outbuilding would make way for a pair of semi-detached homes, a parking area and landscaping.
There would also be changes to the boundary wall and access from Ballingdon Hill would be widened slightly and resurfaced with a concrete entrance and cobblestones.
However, 12 comments of objection have already been lodged with Babergh District Council over the plans for the pub, formerly known as The Kings Head.
A resident of Ballingdon Gardens, located behind the site, raised several concerns including overlooking, reduction of light in their gardens, more vehicles on the "busy road" and the "extremely dangerous" entrance where "visibility up the hill is almost non existent."
"The additional vehicles trying to turn into the property would cause major disruption to the flow of traffic from the traffic lights as they would need to wait in the flow of traffic waiting for a gap in traffic coming down the hill, which is a very busy road," they added.
A resident in a neighbouring property described the site as being "overdeveloped".
Another wrote: "The access to this site sits directly on the junction of the main road into Sudbury. Any traffic from either Bulmer Road or Middleton Road wanting to turn into the site will find it blocked by the waiting traffic, so this will block the flow of traffic until the lights change."
Other concerns included work traffic, parking spaces provided and the demolition of historic walls.
Documents before the council state the current site is "in a state of disrepair".
The plans are amended from those that were already approved in November 2019 for the site, but with a greater emphasis on sustainability.
They are with Babergh District Council for consideration.
