An Ipswich primary school is celebrating after being after being made a Centre of Excellence for inclusivity.
Broke Hall Community Primary School in Chatsworth Drive, Rushmere St Andrew, has been awarded an Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) with Centre of Excellence status.
The award was established in 2004 to support and assess both state and independent schools.
According to the IQM an inclusive school is one that "gives all pupils, regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, achievements or background equal opportunities to succeed."
Broke Hall is part of the Children’s Endeavour Trust which comprises of seven primary schools and one junior school in Ipswich, Needham Market, Stowmarket and Stowupland.
The school becomes the third in the trust to be awarded inclusivity status after Whitehouse Community Primary School in Ipswich and Abbot’s Hall Community Primary School in Stowmarket.
Daniel Jones chief executive officer (CEO) of the trust said he was delighted that Broke Hall as inclusion and community are among the Children’s Endeavour Trust Drivers.
Mr Jones is also a founding member of the Suffolk Educational Partnership a collaboration between local authority officers, headteachers and trust leaders aiming to improve outcomes for pupils through stronger relationships between schools.
He also chairs the Partnership’s Special Educational Needs task group which has recently secured funding for five primary schools across the county to help them work towards Inclusion Quality Mark.
Headteacher at Broke Hall, Ruth Fairs said: "We are pleased that the assessment also recognised our ‘passion to accommodate all needs, no matter how challenging.’
"Broke Hall School has developed a rich curriculum, supplemented with a wide range of opportunities to develop the social and personal skills of all the children. We ensure that all children are supported to allow them full access to the curriculum."
