Stansted Airport witnessed its busiest day in history last month as more than 107,000 passengers travelled through the terminal.

The previous record of 104,000 was set on August 23, and this is the fourth time the record has been surpassed in 2024.

The start of the half-term holidays, combined with a high demand for family holidays and short breaks, contributed to the record-breaking day at the north Essex airport on October 27.

The most popular destinations included Turkey, the Canaries, Spain and Portugal.

Stansted also recorded its busiest October, with 2.67million passengers using the airport - an increase of 97,000 from last year.

Overseas visitors have been using Stansted as their gateway to London and the East of England, thanks to a number of high-profile European football and NFL games hosted in the capital.

Stansted’s managing director, Gareth Powell, said: “To record the busiest day in the history of London Stansted in late October is an incredible achievement and a powerful reflection of reliability, great choice, value and operational efficiency the airport and our airline partners are able to offer our passengers."
