A council is set to launch a new kerbside collections trial as it targets the "pressing issue of e-waste."
People in East Suffolk are being urged to recycle their electrical items as a new scheme begins later this month.
East Suffolk Council has teamed up with Material Focus as part of a nationwide campaign that is aiming to significantly reduce e-waste.
It will see small electrical items collected from the kerbside across the district - with the hope that 120,000 households will get behind the recycling drive.
Householders will be able to leave up to two small electrical items on top of their bins on their usual bin collection day each week with refuse crews taking them away for recycling.
This is one of over 40 UK projects funded by Material Focus, with £60,724 provided to support this project.
Lowestoft, Kessingland, Oulton, Pakefield, Carlton Colville, Wrentham and Worlingham in the north, as well as Aldeburgh, Leiston, Saxmundham, Rendlesham, Orford, Framlingham, Melton, Woodbridge, Wickham Market, Kesgrave, Felixstowe, Martlesham and Purdis Farm in the south.
Trial electrical kerbside collections will be initially introduced on four collection rounds - covering parts ofThe collections will then be rolled out across the rest of the district over the next few months - and by May 2025, all areas of East Suffolk will be covered.
Cllr Sally Noble, East Suffolk Council’s cabinet member for the Environment, said: "Having seen the popularity of the collection banks for small electricals which we previously trialled in some of our towns, we know that residents want to dispose of their electrical items properly and so we are confident people will be keen to make the most of these new kerbside collections."
