An Ipswich mother-of-two is set to complete an eight-day cycle ride from Vietnam to Cambodia in memory of her late father.

Kate Innes, 43, is using the challenge to raise money for Brain Tumour Research following the death of her father Roger Harvey from a brain tumour at the age of 78.

Mr Harvey died suddenly and unexpectedly in February 2021 from a tumour in his brain stem that was undetected with no signs or symptoms.

Mrs Innes will be cycling 341 miles from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to Angkor Wat in Cambodia from November 23 to December 4.

Mr Harvey led a very active lifestyle and was a very keen cyclist himself from a young age.

Mrs Innes has said that the challenge will not just be in memory of her father, but also everyone who has lost loved ones to the disease.

She has chosen Brain Tumour Research as it the only national charity dedicated to long-term sustainable brain tumour research.

Despite this only 1% of money spent nationally on cancer research is allocated to research on brain tumours something that Kate has described as "unacceptable".

Mrs Innes describes the feat as an "endurance challenge" on "tricky terrain" and said that the heat and the distance covered would be the main obstacles on her quest to complete the route.

She said: "It's going to be really hot the temperature is going to be around 30 degrees.

"It's off road on difficult tracks, there's a lot of potholes. It's probably going to be the distance the heat and the humidity.

"We've got British medics going with us. The key really is dehydration."
