Motorists in mid Suffolk have been warned after several drivers were caught driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

A diversion route was put in place while Finborough Road, in Stowmarket, was closed for gas mains replacement works.

Officers from Suffolk police were made aware after "several" drivers were seen travelling in the wrong direction in Violet Hill Road.

Suffolk Highways further urged drivers to correctly follow the diversion route to ensure the safety of road users and pedestrians.

The road closure is part of a phased closure over the course of four months to replace the gas works around Stowmarket and ensure they future-proof the network.

Finborough Road is projected to be closed until Sunday, February 2.

Childer Road at the junction of Finborough Road will be closed on Monday, November 11.
