A café boss says they have been "well supported" by the community during their opening weekend.

Bruford's of Debenham opened in the mid Suffolk village's High Street on Friday, November 1.

Run by Nick and Linda Hughes, it follows the couple's move to the village 12 months ago.

"We had a really busy Friday and an even busier Saturday. It's more than we anticipated."

Mr Hughes - who runs a management consultancy business with his wife - had been contemplating opening the cake and coffee shop since moving to the village, before taking the plunge in September.

"One of the things we found when we moved to the village, particularly being rural, is there is nowhere with decent broadband where you can go and work for a couple of hours and get out of the house for a couple of hours," added Mr Hughes.

The café will be using local providers, with its coffee sourced from Crude Coffee in Bury St Edmunds.

There will be around 20 different cakes on offer every day, including a vegan range.

Mr Hughes continued: "All we are looking to offer is a quality cup of coffee, with a great selection of cakes, in a nice environment.

"The village has been great. It's pretty much what we anticipated of being, and this venture seems to have been well received."

The opening of the café follows the unveiled of a new hair and beauty salon in the High Street.

Chloe Locke said she felt "excited" and "nervous" ahead of the opening of The Deben Retreat.
