Home to one of the best markets in the county and two award winning restaurants, this Suffolk town should be on your list to visit.

Sudbury has a lot to offer for those visiting for the day or a long weekend, but here are some places you should check out if travelling to the town.

Markets

The Sudbury market dates as far back as 1009, and featured in the Domesday Book.

Held every Thursday and Saturday in Market Hill in town, the market has plenty of stalls to offer ranging from boutiques to fresh produce, donuts, meat and sweets.

The town also hosts a farmers market on the last Friday of every month.

There are usually about 25 stalls where local producers showcase their products with plenty on offer.

Countryside

Away from the town centre there are plenty of places to check out the countryside.

One of the best places is along the Sudbury Water Meadows, which was also recently named as one of the happiest places in Suffolk by our readers.

There is also a number of great walks to take around the town and surrounding villages.

One of the best is the old railway line walk which connects Sudbury to Long Melford.

There is also plenty to do in Long Melford, which is fast becoming one of the top foodie destinations in the county

Pubs and restaurants

If there is one thing Sudbury is not short on, it is pubs.

Whether you are looking for a boozer with a nice big beer garden or a place where you can cosy up to a fire, there is something for everyone in the town.

Courtyard Brewery and Tap Room opened its doors in the town in October last year and has been a hit with both locals and people visiting the town.

The establishment has a number of different ales, which are all brewed in Gosfield, for customers to choose from, as well as bottled lagers.

The tap room is open 12pm until 8pm during the week, and until 9pm on a Friday and Saturday.

The town is also home to a number of great restaurants including two award-winning Indian restaurants.

Jilani and Ballingdon Valley have both won national awards for their food.

Theatre and history

The Quay Theatre is a small but charming theatre which is one of the town's central hubs.
