A pub in the heart of a town centre has made a bid to extend its pavement licence and keep its outdoor seating area.

The Volunteer, on London Road North in Lowestoft town centre, has submitted a new pavement licence application.

The pub - which dates back to the 1890s, and was known as 'Volunteer Stores' in 1911 - reopened its doors in October 2019 following a significant refurbishment project.

A consultation is now under way after a renewal application was lodged with East Suffolk Council.

The application from the pub's licensing co-ordinator Alison Bracken is seeking permission to retain the five tables and 20 chairs on a seating area in front of its premises at 170 London Road North.

With the seating area proposed to be 8.4m x 2.55m in front of The Volunteer, the application is to keep it available to punters between the hours of 11am and 9pm, Monday to Sunday.

With a consultation - which runs until November 4 - having started, representations must be made in writing to the Licensing Team at East Suffolk Council - as the licensing authority - by email to licensing@eastsuffolk.gov.uk

As the renewal application is "awaiting decision" with the council, representations close on Monday, November 4, 2024.
