Lane closures will be in place in both directions on the Orwell Bridge tonight.

National Highways confirmed they will be carrying out repairs to the safety barriers on the bridge between 9pm on Tuesday and 5am on Wednesday.

One lane on the eastbound and westbound carriage will be shut during the works.

Drivers have been warned of delays in the area and advised to seek alternative routes.

This comes after the westbound carriageway of the bridge was closed in September when a "potential defect" was found during a routine inspection.

The closure caused days of traffic chaos for those travelling on the A14 and around the Ipswich area and prompted fresh calls to revive the Ipswich transportation taskforce.

It was announced earlier this month that remedial works to the Orwell Bridge are expected to begin before April next year.
