Felixstowe Judo Club has successfully raised funds to install a defibrillator at Kirton Church Hall.

The initiative was sparked by the club's coaches during a first-aid course in April, aiming to enhance safety for the community and the hall's users.

The defibrillator was secured through London Hearts, with the club needing to raise £1,211, plus additional installation costs.

A JustGiving page was set up, receiving substantial donations from the community, online supporters, and club members.

Special recognition went to Ted and Barbara Payne, Susan Harvey, Maze Logistic Solutions Ltd, Grange Shipping, and Scott Beckett Estate Agents for their contributions.

Despite pledges from local councils, the club did not receive the promised funds.

To further boost the fundraising effort, Felixstowe Judo Club organised a quiz night, attracting over 50 attendees and raising £571.

The success of the raffle on the night, with prizes donated by various businesses, significantly contributed to reaching the £1,300 target.

The businesses included Fred Olsen Cruises, Riverhills Health Club and Spa, Greggs, Baylham House Farm, and Gill’s Cupcakes, among others.

The successful campaign was led by keen fundraiser Emily Burrell and Felixstowe Judo Club’s chairman, Bas Lensen.

The club want to thank the community, businesses, and club members and parents for their support.

Kirton Parish Council has agreed to maintain the defibrillator, ensuring its readiness for emergencies.

The judo club shared their appreciation, saying: "It just shows how great our community really is."

The judo club trains at Kirton Church Hall every Monday and Friday evening.

The club hopes the defibrillator will never be needed but takes comfort in knowing it is available for emergencies.
