A banking giant is yet to announce a closing down date for a Suffolk town's last remaining bank.

Barclays announced earlier this year that it would close its branch in Leiston due to a lack of people using the bank.

It was expected to close on Friday, May 17 but Barclays made the decision to keep the bank open so that a banking hub could be set up.

A statement from Barclays said it is keeping the bank open to give Cash Access UK time to provide a banking hub in Leiston

A new closure date has not yet been announced.

According to Barclays, only 64 customers use the branch regularly and 86% of people who do use it also use the online banking app.

After the branch closes, there will be no banks in the east Suffolk town and the nearest Barclays will be in Lowestoft.
