An inquest has opened into the death of a Bury St Edmunds teenager who died in a crash in February.

Lee Harley Chapman was driving along Summer Road in Hepworth, near Stanton, on the evening on February 2 when he collided with a tree.  

Police were called to assist the ambulance service at about 10.25pm that evening.

A silver Ford Fiesta left the road to the nearside and crashed into a tree in Summer Road in Hepworth, near Stanton.

He was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with life-threatening injuries.

The inquest heard his injuries were deemed "unsurvivable" and his death was confirmed in the early hours of February 3.

Coroner Darren Stewart OBE opened the inquest into his death at Ipswich Coroner’s Court on Friday.

The road was closed until about 6.20am on Saturday, February 3, while a crash investigation was carried out. 

A written conclusion for the inquest will be completed within 14 days of the opening date.
