A Suffolk MP has visited a primary school to join children on their daily mile.

James Cartlidge, South Suffolk MP, attended St Gregory CEVC Primary School in Sudbury to learn about its initiative helping to promote the importance of being active for physical and mental health.

The Daily Mile is a social physical activity where children spend 15 minutes each day running, jogging, or walking with their friends.

Mr Cartlidge said: “It was huge fun to participate in the ‘Daily Mile’ with headmaster Daniel Woodrow and all the pupils at St Gregory Primary School in Sudbury.

"The Daily Mile is a really positive national initiative for schools and I was really pleased to see how well it is supported locally.

"But of course, the best part was talking to the pupils from St Greg’s – especially about how much they enjoy their Daily Mile.”

Headteacher Daniel Woodrow said: "Children come back into class re-energised and ready to learn after their Daily Mile.

"By spending time outside with their friends and taking part in a fun activity together it is really helping their mental health and wellbeing too. "
