A racecourse in Suffolk has been named as having one of the highest attendance levels in the UK.
Founded in 1636, Newmarket Racecourse has become a staple of British horse racing and according to Online Betting Guide, its attendance levels have now placed it in the top five in the country.
The west Suffolk racecourse saw over 2,761,240 visitors attend its events over the last ten years, placing it just behind York, Cheltenham and Ascot.
This news comes after the multi-million-pound upgrades to its July Course were finished last year, with a brand-new champagne bar and viewing terrace being completed.
Newmarket is home to two prestigious, world-famous racetracks – the Rowley Mile and the July Course.
The race course also has deep ties to royalty, initially formed by James I, who was reprimanded by parliament for spending too much time in Newmarket.
The Rowley Mile is also named after Old Rowley, one of King Charles II’s favourite racehorses.
