Drivers were being told to avoid a stretch of the A12 following a crash.
Emergency services were at the scene of the crash in the southbound carriageway near Kelvedon on Thursday morning.
A spokesman for Essex Police said the carriageway will be closed while emergeny services respond and deal with the incident.
"Avoid the area if you can," the spokesman added. .
A stretch of the A12 was closed in both directions near Marks Tey on Wednesday.
A spokesman for Essex Police said the closure was put in place after they were called to reports of concerns for the welfare of a woman at about 10.25am.
It was later confirmed that a woman was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, with serious injuries.
