The countdown is on until the first half term of the year with plenty of events organised across the county.

From a family fireworks display to exploring the marshes at night, here are some cheap or free events happening in Suffolk over the October half-term.

1. Scarecrow and Pumpkin Trail

When: Monday, October 28

Cost: £5 for adults and £3 for children

Hop on the 11.06am train from Lowestoft to Halesworth before following the map at the train station to find the letters in shop windows throughout the town and solve the puzzle. 

There will also be a craft session to make mini scarecrows in the church from 12.30pm. 

2. Halloween Crafts

When: Tuesday, October 29 from 10.30am until 11.30am

Cost: Free (booking required)

The library is hosting a series of Halloween-themed crafts that will be suitable for children aged over five to take part in. 

Crafts available including paint your own ceramic pumpkin or make witch paper plate crafts and monster pom pom crafts.

3. NightMARE at the Museum

When: Thursday, October 31 from 5.30pm until 7pm

Cost: £6 for adults and £4 for children over five

Can you find Kizzy the miniature Shetland pony who has been captured by the ghosts of Palace House? 

Follow the mystery trail through the Museum grounds and collect the ingredients needed to break the spell.

4. Butter Making

When: Tuesday, October 29

Cost: £5 per child

Learn how the Victorian's made their butter in a hands-on workshop with the dairy maid. 

Families can also explore the treasures in the kitchen to find out more about what life was like in the Victorian era.

5. Spooky Fireworks Display

When: Friday, October 25 from 6pm until 11.30pm

Cost: £8 for adults and £5 for children over five (if pre-booked)

The annual spectacular returns with barbecue food, a fully stocked bar, sweet stalls and more entertainment for the whole family. 

The fireworks display will start a 7.30pm weather permitting.

6. Undley Pumpkin Patch

When: Weekend in October and daily from Saturday, October 26 until Thursday, October 31

Cost: Free admission 

There will be hundreds of pumpkins to choose from which will be priced between £1 and £7 depending on size. 

Other attractions such as inflatables and a maize maze will also be on site for an additional cost.

7. Twilight Nights

When: Saturday, October 26

Cost: £4 for adults and £7 for children

There will be a range of nature-themed activities to get involved with after dark at Carlton Marshes. 

Dissect owl pellets to discover what the barn owl ate for tea or use a telescope to search for constellations and planets in the sky.
