Repairs to a house which was flooded during Storm Babet may not be completed until February next year - almost 18 months after the torrential downpours.

Adele Wyse has been living in the upstairs of her home in Wetheringsett, near Debenham, over the past few months following damage caused to the downstairs of her property.

Water seeped into the ground floor through her drains, leading to about six inches of water coming inside and flooding her kitchen cupboards, sofas and most of her downstair rooms.

Repairs stalled for a period of time, but they are due to begin once more in November. However, it means Ms Wyse's home may not be fully functioning again until February.

"It was very surreal. It felt like it was happening to someone else or in a movie," she said.

"It came in our house under the ground. There's very little you can do to stop that."

Ms Wyse's property was the only home in Wetherup Street, a small hamlet in Wetheringsett, to flood due to the field behind her house sitting at a higher level.

Water started to pool in her garden at about 10.20am, before the situation started to get worse an hour later.

She added: "We had work begin on our house about a month, six weeks ago now and they were here for five days and they disappeared then never came back. Now they're not coming back until November.

"We were hoping we will be back in for Christmas, but we won't be back to normal probably until about February. It will be about 18 months since the flood, which is just mad. But now it is a bit like 'oh well, what's another week? What's another month?"
