Stowmarket Recreation Road 'dangerous condition' slammed

Recreation Road is one of the key roads in Stowmarket, connecting Violet Hill Road and the B1115. 

Simon Wilson, who lives in the street, believes it is in a "dangerous condition" with the number of potholes.

"It is not really safe to drive on. I am used to it, I know where the potholes are and how to avoid them.

"It is a dangerous road and in a dangerous condition."

Mr Wilson says he has lived in the road since 1997, and "never before seen this kind of neglect." 

He is hoping that action can be taken in the next few weeks before winter weather takes hold.

He added that infrastructure in the town "cannot cope with the increase in traffic".

According to Suffolk Highways, nearby Windermere Road, St Mary’s Road and Silverdale Avenue will be resurfaced on Wednesday, October 16, and Thursday, October 17. 

"Recreation Road in Stowmarket is subject to a routine inspection every three months," a spokesperson for Suffolk Highways said. 

"Any defects identified that meet our repair criteria will be addressed accordingly.

"We acknowledge the current condition of the road surface, and it has been added to the programme for potential future resurfacing. We will continue to monitor the location; however, if the condition worsens, please report it to Suffolk Highways, via the online reporting tool."

It comes after Suffolk Highways launched their pothole prevention programme ahead of the winter months.

Operations will be targeted on a "preventative programme" of find and repair in order to make the road network better.
