People in Suffolk are being warned about a new scam which claims they are eligible to receive a living allowance. 

Suffolk Trading Standards has issued the warning after receiving multiple reports from residents across the county who said they were sent text messages claiming to be from the government. 

The text message said the person was eligible for a living allowance and had to apply to claim it as soon as possible. 

It comes after similar text message scams were reported in the country about parking fines and Jobseekers Allowance.

The scam message included a link to fake but convincing copy of the official government website, complete with accurate logos, branding and font. 

It also claimed it was urgent and residents had to apply by a certain deadline or the funds would be allocated to other people in need. 

The fake government page asks for personal and payment data including name, email, phone number and home address in order to receive payment. 

Anyone who receives the scam text message should report it by forwarding the message to 7726.
