An Ipswich Town legend and Suffolk resident has slammed the A12 after it was named one of the worst A roads in the country.
Alan Brazil commutes from his home near Hadleigh to the TalkSport studios in London for his morning radio show.
The presenter said he was glad the roadworks at Colchester have finished following months of being beset by delays.
"Thank god the roadworks have finished," he said. "It's just shocking."
One journey on his way home saw 50 minutes added onto the trip due to cones which were left out, despite no work taking place.
When he makes the commute to his office in Canary Wharf, he tries to leave it "as late as possible" timing wise in order to avoid the roadworks.
National Highways is due to finish its £36.9million project on the carriageway between junction 25, for Marks Tey, and junction 26, for Stanway, this October.
The final set of overnight closures to rebuild the road are currently taking place.
Caroline Kennedy, assistant manager at Bypass Nurseries in Capel St Mary, said staff can take up to two hours getting to work, for what should be a 20 minute journey.
She said: "As a business, we have had our large sign knocked down three times now by vehicles coming off the road at the sharp junction at Capel heading north on the A12 just before the garden centre."
Mrs Kennedy added that closures on the A12 have an impact on their business, as well as others located at the site, on a weekly basis.
Government watchdog Transport Focus' annual survey of customer satisfaction of road users found the A12 came bottom of National Highways-managed roads.
The rating only applies as far as the Copdock Interchange with the A14 just outside of Ipswich.
Results from the survey found only 55% of drivers were satisfied with the A12.
The amount of roadworks on the trunk road proved to be one of the main factors for why people were left dissatisfied.
“Because they have roadworks on there. They have been there for over a year now and don’t seem to be doing much.”
Ipswich MP Jack Abbott added: “I am disappointed, but not surprised, that the A12 has been ranked so poorly by road users. I hope National Highways takes note of this conclusive feedback and acts accordingly to improve drivers’ experience."
A National Highways spokesperson said: "We listened to the views of road users and are about to complete the final section of £100m of improvements we have delivered to the A12 since this survey was undertaken.
“This work will provide safer, smoother and quieter journeys for those that rely on this vital road as well as less need for maintenance and repair in the future."
