A man has been fined after police found cannabis in his Ipswich hotel room.

Jamie Brown, 31, had the drug at the Great White Horse Hotel in Ipswich when the premises were searched by police on February 15.

Lesla Small, prosecuting, told Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday the cannabis was in a drawer in Brown's room.

She said: “On February 15 a search warrant was executed at the room where Brown was residing at the Great White Horse Hotel in Ipswich.

“A small amount of cannabis was found in a drawer.

“He was arrested, interviewed and made full admissions in that interview.”

Brown, of Princess Drive in Highwoods, Colchester, admitted one charge of possessing a controlled drug and was unrepresented in court.

He said: “They searched the whole hotel - every single room - and they happened to find a joint. That’s it.

“I was never arrested, I was never interviewed.”

Brown - who appeared in the dock wearing a white Hugo Boss hoodie - was fined £293, with costs of £202.
