An inquest into the death of a baby boy from west Suffolk has been opened.
On Friday, the inquest into the death of Albert Salmon, who was of Bury St Edmunds, was formally opened at Suffolk Coroners’ Court in Ipswich.
The court heard that Albert, who was six months old when he died, retained a Group B streptococcal infection. This led to a catastrophic brain injury.
The court heard that Albert did not respond well to treatment. Following this, a discussion was had between clinicians and Albert’s family, and a decision was made for “best supportive care”.
Albert died on June 27, 2024, the court was told.
The court heard that his family have raised concerns regarding his care and treatment at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds before and after his birth.
The case has been listed for mention on November 15. A date for a full inquest to take place at Suffolk Coroners' Court has not yet been decided but will be determined at a later date.
